DMV said it’s mailing 85, 000 letters to registered vehicle owners with these stickers beginning next week.

Now this doesn’t make any sense. Why is this happening? These lanes cost hundreds of millions if not billions and now the state wants to keep hybrids out.

Yellow premiere stickers are no longer valid to drive in the HOV lane.

The stickers expire on June 31, 2011. So you will be cited if you are a solo driver in the hov lanes in California.

So what about electric vehicles or 3 wheel vehicles?

The passage of AB 71 in 1999 allowed all electric vehicles, to use carpool lanes with a solo driver. These vehicles, which meet both state and federal low-emission vehicle standards, were issued white stickers. More than 10,000 stickers have been issued and are valid until Jan. 1, 2015.

These stickers continue to be issued for an unlimited number of specified vehicles.
