Apple unwraps wireless printing for devices

Apple Inc. on Wednesday said it is releasing a beta version of a feature that would enable iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch users to print files wirelessly, the update is iOS 4.2 beta.

Apple said the AirPrint program will allow the devices to “automatically find printers on local networks and print text, photos and graphics to them wirelessly over Wi-Fi without the need to install drivers or download software,” the Cupertino, Calif.-based company said in a statement.

The feature will be supported by Hewlett-Packard’s HPQ ePrint printers, Apple said.

AirPrint which is part of iOS 4.2 has been released to members of the Apple iOS developer program, and will be part of the software’s updated version in November, Apple said.
