49th Annual Sunland Watermelon Festival

The 49th Annual Watermelon Festival, presented by the Sunland-Tujunga Lions Club, will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 13, 14 & 15, 2010 at the Sunland Park Recreation Center located at 8651 Foothill Boulevard, Sunland, California, 91040. The festival will feature free slices of watermelon, live entertainment, contests, a children’s entertainment center, a festival marketplace, food court, carnival rides, games and raffles.Festival hours are Friday from 5pm to 11pm, Saturday from noon to 11:30pm and Sunday from noon to 10:30pm. Proceeds from the annual event will benefit various Sunland-Tujunga youth and community activities, aid with disaster relief programs and support many regional, national and international health and vision conservation programs. Prizes – Opportunity Drawing at the Sunland-Tujunga Watermelon Festival
Cash Prizes Tickets for the opportunity drawing are available from members of the Lions Club, and from contestants for Watermelon Festival Queen.
Raffle tickets will be available during the Festival at the Lions Den Headquarters booth or from the Watermelon Queen and Princesses.
A donation of $1 per ticket is customary. However, you do not have to pay to participate in this drawing. A free ticket may be obtained by calling 818-781-7721.
Prize Drawings 2010
* Third prize of $100 will be awarded Friday night at 9:00 p.m.
* Second prize of $250 will be awarded Saturday night at 9:00 p.m.
* The Grand Prize of $500 will be awarded Sunday night at 9:00 p.m.
* Bonus prizes will be given away each night at 9:00 p.m.

Tickets will be drawn each evening following the drawing for the cash prizes. The winner must be present. The tickets drawn will be returned to the hopper. Prizes listed are those given away in 2008.

Before the Festival, support your favorite candidate for Festival Queen by buying your raffle tickets from her before August 10.
Make sure the ticket stubs with your name, address and phone number are deposited in the large hopper at the Lions Den headquarters before 9:00 p.m. each night. You do not need to be present to win the cash prizes. All drawings will be held at the Festival Stage
Trade Used Eyeglasses or Hearing Aid for a Ticket
Bring used eyeglasses or hearing aids to the Lions Den during the Festival and donate them to Lions Recycle for Sight. In exchange, you will receive a free raffle ticket. Be a winner in the effort to bring clear vision to people in developing countries who do not have access to vision care. Or help folks who can’t afford a hearing aid to get one at a very low cost.
