The Great Oxnard Salsa Challenge Recipe Contest

Oxnard, CA – Does your salsa have what it takes to take top honors? Amateur salsa chefs are invited to put their spicy concoctions to the test by participating in the 2011 Great Oxnard Salsa Challenge Amateur Recipe Contest, presented by the Oxnard Salsa Festival and the kitchen eatery, on Sunday morning, July 31, 2011 at the Oxnard Salsa Festival in downtown Oxnard. The contest is limited to fifty salsas; pre-registration is required, and contestants are accepted on a first-come, first serve basis up until July 15. The entry fee is $25 per salsa and includes one souvenir t-shirt per entry. Entry forms are available online at www.oxnardsalsafestival.com or by calling 805-247-0197.

Winning salsas will be selected in several categories including Best Red, Best Green, Best Fruit/Specialty, Best Mild, Best Medium and Best Hot! The Judge’s Choice Winner will be awarded with a $100 cash prize from the Oxnard Salsa Festival. First place category winners receive a Festival gift bag and a $30 restaurant gift certificate from the kitchen eatery in downtown Oxnard.

“We encourage people to be creative and think ‘outside the box’ when submitting their entrees,” stated Cathie Moreno, co-owner of the kitchen eatery and recipe contest coordinator. “The more unusual recipes will surely attract attention from the judges, “she added.

The Great Oxnard Salsa Challenge is one of many attractions at the Oxnard Salsa Festival taking place July 30-31, 2011 from 11 am to 7 pm at Plaza Park, Fifth and “B” Streets. The Festival is a two-day celebration of everything salsa … the food, the music and the dance. The event features salsa music and dancing, marketplace shopping, Kids Korner attractions including tortilla art, a Salsa Tasting Tent, international foods and more.

Admission and parking are free.

It’s a Windows Phone 7 hackathon called XAPFest that is being held in Santa Monica at the Loew’s Hotel on June 4th, 9AM – 10PM, with the goal of bringing together 250+ mobile developers from the Santa Monica/LA/OC tech community and give them a fun, creative environment to do something cool and get recognition for their hard work. We’re trying to build an environment that gives the local community the chance to directly engage with each other and recognize some local developers who do great work. As you know, competitive hackathons are fun because they reward creativity & technical knowledge and but in the end it’s about rewarding the people who build things that get people excited.
