2011 Hatch Chile Roasting – South Pasadena Bristol Farms Sept 10, 2011

What a great event at the Bristol Farms in South Pasadena this afternoon. The team from Melissa’s was on hand to roast chile’s fresh from New Mexico, palettes of them roasted for free, $35 per box that weighs about 23lbs before roasting, and about 17lbs after roasting. If you buy the whole box you have to package them yourself when you get home. The instructions where there.

Here’s one of the three fire roasters, they get very hot. The team was roasting chiles starting at 6am.

One of the things we talked about was making chile ice cream. Apparently it has been done, I bet someone has tried to make ice cream with just about anything, no surprise.

South Pasadena – Saturday, September 10th
8:00am – 2:00pm
606 Fair Oaks Avenue
South Pasadena, CA 91030

As the providers of the New Mexico Hatch chiles, Melissa’s Produce team will be on hand to help the roasting stations at each of the Bristol Farms select locations and available to answer questions about this exciting chile variety.
