Twitter Spawned 50,000 Apps To Date

Rayan Saver, Twitter’s Director of Platform, shared some announcements after taking stage at Le Web a coupler of minutes ago. The announcements were about future of the Platform its effect on the ecosystem.

He also shared with the audience some milestones that Twitter has achieved; He said 50, 000 applications have been built by using Twitter APIs.

The roadmap ahead:

Transparency:

“We need to be more public about our intentions and policies”

Communication:

“We need to inform the developers what’s going on”

Utility:

“We have to provide robust API’s continuously”

Profitability:

“We succeed when our partners do” (more details coming early 2010)

Four announcements:

1. Pretty significant news: Firehouse. No details yet but its coming early in 2010. everyone will be getting full access to the data stream

2. New Home For Developers: a new website is going to be launched in the coming weeks that will include status, dashboards, tutorials and much more.

3. Soon an increased rate limit up to 10x will be given to those who make OAuth requests to Twitter – Starting Basic Auth decprecation in June 2010.

4. Next year Twitter is going to hoist an official developer conference in San Fransisco next year it is called Chirp.
