Sunset Concerts at the Skirball – tips for a great evening

If you have ever attended a Sunset Concert at the Skirball Cultural Center, you know that it is an amazing, world-music filled evening.  However, the logistics of it all can sometimes feel a bit daunting if you don’t know what you are getting yourself into.

For info on upcoming concerts,  click here. Here are some good things to know:

-Parking is in the Skirball lot only.  No street parking allowed (you’ll get towed).  Parking is $10 per car or $5 for cars carrying three or more people (save the earth!).  Bring cash for parking.

-Metro Rapid 761 drops off right in front of the Skirball.  Schedule is here.

-You can bring outside food into the venue, but no alcoholic drinks. There is a grassy area on the balcony above the stage that is perfect for picnicking.

-Food options at the Skirball are either the buffet (make reservations in advance) or the grab-and-go café. There’s a ATM below the lobby if you need cash, but they accept plastic for food purchases.

-If you make reservations at the buffet, you get priority, reserved seating for the concert.  Call 310-440-4575, and try to get an outside table if possible.

-There is a full cash bar in the venue.

-All concerts are free and performed in a very nice courtyard with great acoustics!

-When you arrive, you will get a ticket with a time on it.  Lines form for each time and the lines will begin to be let into the courtyard at 7:00 p.m. Once you have your ticket, you can roam around the Skirball exhibitions till your stated entry time. To make the most of your time, arrive early, get an early entry time, explore the galleries, and be admitted into the concert early enough to grab a choice seat!

-Skirball exhibitions remain open until 10pm.

-People rush for the seats so if you come on the late end, you may have to stand. Plan to come early if you need to sit.

-Concerts do close after capacity is reached, so come early to make sure that you don’t get turned away after driving across town.

Hope these tips help you to have the best time possible at the Skirball’s awesome Sunset Concerts!
