Anyone else having troubles with the little rubber piece on Plantronics ear pieces that are part of the Bluetooth devices?
The latest model I have, a Plantronics Discovery 665, the rubber pieces has turned black and is almost half the size, the pieces of rubber are coming apart and sticking in my ear.
I consider this a serious defect in the product and have sent in a request for replacement and explanation as to what is happening here.
In the meantime I have switched to a Blue Ant that doesn’t have the rubber piece.
This is the original purchased ear piece
This is what the rubber looks like after about 6 months of use.
Notice that there are chunks of rubber coming off.

Update: I have heard from Customer Service and they offered to replace the ear piece gels and send a hook. Thanks so much. Customer Service at most companies is great when you reach the right people.
Jeff with Plantronics Global Customer Care at the Technical Assistance Center Supervisor – Santa Cruz 800-544-4660, was very helpful. I look forward to receiving my replacement gels.
The question I still have, are the gels supposed to get that way? turning black and sticky?
Update: The package Plantronics sent has been received. Thanks Plantronics for responding quickly. 3 ear gels along with the ear hook. All you have to do is call them. I am still not sure why gel falls apart they way it did, I have had this happen before with Plantronics. I guess the material is made from a softer rubber/gel and is vulnerable to falling apart.
