PASADENA ARTWEEKEND SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA’S LARGEST ART AND CULTURE FESTIVAL RETURNS – OCTOBER 10-12

– 30 plus Events. One Weekend. All Free –

PASADENA, CA, September, 2008 – More than 30,000 are expected to attend the third annual Pasadena ArtWeekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 10, 11, 12, 2008. This free, city-wide, multi-venue festival features music, art installations, paintings, mixed media, storytelling, free museum admission and much more.

The celebration kicks off Friday, October 10 when a dozen cultural institutions open their doors for free during ArtNight. Pasadena ArtWeekend continues Saturday, October 11 with over 40 visual artists showcasing their work at ArtWalk and an exciting Latino heritage parade and jamaica at ArtHeritage. This large urban diverse festival concludes Sunday, October 12 with ArtPerformance, a vibrant outdoor music event featuring new and emerging talent and ArtMarket, an open-air fine arts sale in Old Pasadena.

Throughout the weekend, attendees will experience a diverse array of fine arts, cultural heritage, dance, and music. Pasadena ArtWeekend is a free all-ages event.

ArtNight

Friday, October 10- 6pm to 10pm

Pasadena’s cultural institutions open their doors for FREE du
ring ArtNight Pasadena, offering the public a rich sampling of quality art, artifacts, and music within the city.

ArtNight Pasadena electrifies the air with creative energy when together thousands experience its rich variety of art, music and entertainment. A partnership between the city’s Cultural Affairs Division and an impressive list of cultural institutions, it is sponsored by Pasadena Arts and Culture Commission. Free shuttle services transport attendees to each cultural venue where exciting exhibitions and surprising performances are absolutely free. Opening their doors will be Armory Center for the Arts, Art Center College of Design, One Colorado, Norton Simon Museum, Pacific Asia Museum, Pasadena Central Library, Pasadena City College, Pasadena Jazz Institute, Pasadena Museum of California Art, Pasadena Museum of History, and Side Street Projects.

ArtWalk

Saturday, October 11 – 11am to 5pm

The 3rd annual ARTWalk an art, music and cultural festival will take place on El Molino Ave. between Green St. and Colorado Blvd. The cultural arts smorgasbord features a juried visual art fair with over 40 participating artists including painting, sculpture, photography, and jewelry. This year’s festival includes more hands-on activities, live entertainment, art installations, free museum admission, storytelling and much more.

ArtHeritage

Latino Heritage parade and jamaica

Saturday, 11 am to 4 pm

The Latino Heritage parade will kick off at 11:00 a.m. on Los Robles Ave., north of Washington Blvd. and will end at La Pintoresca Park. The sights and sounds of Aztec dancers, bands, ballet folklorico, and entertainment will fill the jamaica (fair) at the park. All are welcome to enjoy a fun-filled day of arts and crafts, food, music, and Living History. This family event is free.

ArtMarket

Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm

The San Gabriel Valley’s most popular fine arts market features works for sale by students, faculty and alumni from Art Center College of Design and Pasadena City College. It’s a great opportunity to find innovative productions by emerging talent. 100% of sales go to artists. Located in the One Colorado Courtyard.

ArtPerformance

Sunday, 12 pm to 5 pm

Old Pasadena Management presents ArtPerformance, a vibrant outdoor music event, showcasing emerging and nationally recognized talent. Spanning genres and musical tastes, ArtPerformance offers something for everyone. ArtPerformance takes place on De Lacey Street between Colorado and Union in the heart of Old Pasadena. Featuring five acts, music lovers are invited to enjoy such artists as psychedelic indie rock group West Indian Girl, Colombian music sensation Very Be Careful and Trip hop funk band Faro among others.

ArtWeekend is a three-day event that includes ArtNight, ArtWalk, ArtHeritage, ArtMarket, and ArtPerformance. ArtWeekend is a joint venture with the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs with the Arts & Culture Commission, Pasadena Convention Center & Visitors Bureau, Old Pasadena Management, Playhouse District Association, One Colorado, Pasadena Latino Heritage and Cultural Pasadena.
