OriginOil CEO Discusses Breakthrough Algae to Oil Technology on CEO Radio Network
– Industrialized algae has the potential to be the global renewable fuel of the future –
Los Angeles, CA – September 5, 2008 – OriginOil, Inc. (OOIL), the developer of a breakthrough technology to transform algae, the most promising source of renewable oil, into a true competitor to petroleum, today announced that its Chief Executive Officer, Riggs Eckelberry, discussed the industrialization of algae to oil and its potential to revolutionize the renewable fuels industry in an interview on the CEO Radio Network (www.ceoradionetwork.com).
“Biofuels made from food are not viable long term due to land use and food supply problems,” said Eckelberry. “We can’t use just solar, wind or nuclear energies alone; we also need fast adoption of renewable fuels. Algae is now at the forefront as a portable liquid fuel because it is highly scalable and its growth is prolific. OriginOil has filed five patents for technology that will deliver industrialized algae, giving algae oil the potential to be the biofuel of the future.”
Eckelberry continued, “There is a worldwide need to industrialize the growth of algae, making it in high quantities with predictable turnover and a small footprint. Algae grows for four to five days until it reaches its limit. With additional space, algae expands via logarithmic growth that can be sustained daily. The promise of harvesting algae on a daily basis is the key to the algae revolution. OriginOil’s goal is to help everyone implement its algae to oil technology through a technology export approach with specialized partners in vertical markets and geographic partners who can implement these specialized applications in their regions.”
During the radio interview Eckelberry also discussed the company’s August 14 exhibit at the Green Tech Expo, held in conjunction with the Border Governors Conference. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, his top energy and environmental advisor Terry Tamminen and Secretary of the California Environmental Protection Agency, Linda Adams toured the Expo, stopping to meet the OriginOil team. Governor Schwarzenegger and his energy team discussed the algae to oil promise and how OriginOil can become part of the process to meet major challenges such as California’s AB 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, and helping to develop the Low Carbon Fuel Standard.
