Beloved teacher killed in Rosemead crash
ROSEMEAD – A Rosemead High School teacher is dead after the car he was driving jumped a center median and slammed into oncoming traffic on Rosemead Boulevard Thursday morning, officials said.
James Zant, 51, of La Habra – a government, English and history teacher at the school for the past 25 years – was headed to summer school when his Honda CRV slammed into a Toyota Tundra around 7:30 a.m.
“He was one of the teachers who knew his subject inside and out but also was able to relate it to the kids,” Principal Larry Callaham said Thursday afternoon. “He was so well loved by students and faculty.”
Zant was Head Football coach during the 90s and more recently was a track coach, Callaham said.
The crash closed parts of Rosemead Boulevard for several hours while officials investigated its cause.
