We purchased our MacBook 13″ White in late 2007, and shortly thereafter purchased the AppleCare support warranty which extended the support and warranty for 3 years, which just ended in September of 2010.
Recently we have noticed that the case is cracking around the bottom where the palm rest is, along the edge.
I called Apple to ask if there was anything they could do, and was surprised to hear, that yes, the cracking case is covered by Apple, they support rep made me an appointment with the Genius Bar at the Pasadena Apple Store.
Apple Kudos to you for great phone support and standing behind your products, even if in some cases it is not obvious that there is a problem. Apple far exceeds the support of other companies.
Update: I picked up the MacBook from the Apple store and Apple replaced the part
922-9592 – Housing Kit, Top Case w keyboard display bezel $101.14
S1490LL/A – Hardware Repair Level 1 $39.00
$140.14
Apple covered the cost of the repair, under the extended warranty, product recall.
Tonight when I picked up the computer, I checked in with the first Apple rep I found and they logged in my visit, within about 10min someone walked out from the back room with my computer.
Apple has an interesting way to route people through the store and various departments.
The service dept is the back room, not visible to customers, which is probably a good thing.
One thing that is interesting, Apple does not have a warranty program that you can purchase to extend your warranty beyond the AppleCare 3 year warranty.
