Laplink PCmover Migrate Windows xp to Windows 7

Does Laplink PCMover really work?

Maybe for some users where their systems are basic it will work.

I am on my third attempt one using my wireless network to do the transfer and that I felt was not going to work.  Then I switched to a crossover cable and that failed after, but the computer appeared to have a good portion of my files transferred.  Applications are probably the most troubling to get to work properly as when they are installed they modify the registry and install other files on the system in various locations.

So now on my third attempt I am transferring using an external HD first from the old computer and will then attach it to the new computer and see what happens.

If this doesn’t work I may just do it the hard way.

A couple of annoyances so far:
1. Even if I select to not size the transfer file it appears that multiple files are being created and I am being prompted, why would this happen. I have now restarted this, and there should be no prompt when creating new files. PCMover prompts for new file every 4gigs. And the option to not prompt is grayed out. So this is obviously a bug. I even went back and tried it twice and there was no mention of bug.

2. The prompt to install Ask.com toolbar/search. I just paid for the software and it wants to install more software, I don’t want that, make it an optional option, that by default is not selected i.e. do you want extra crapware?
3. The speed and progress seems off, when I select to start it was 7 hrs now it is 9+ hrs and has been running for many hrs, if I have to answer prompts each time it has to create a new file I am not going to be happy.
4. So now tried something else, set the size to 40,000mb which is equal to 40gigs and still the program PCMover makes 4gig files. So trying to put up with this program has become a pain and there is no response from company, at 4gigs and I have an 80+ gig drive to transfer, that’s 20 files I have to respond to the prompt.  This is not good.
