Designer Technologies:

Is 3-D Printing Creating a New Entrepreneurial Ecosystem?

Event Preview

Not too long ago, 3-D printing was limited to creation of an expensive and very fragile white starch model. Now it is possible to print in everything from ABS plastic to metals to chocolate. Home printers are available and evolving rapidly as the printer designers print their own parts for the next generation of printers. Finally sharing sites are springing up where people can publish designs (and in some cases, get royalties on the designs when someone orders a print). Come to this forum to hear from UC Irvine’s research consortium about what will be possible in the near future. Then hear from a Kickstarter-funded entrepreneur and others about the niches they are creating in this ecosystem and how it is working out for them.
