Genie Excelerator Plastic Base Breaks

I’m on the phone this morning with Genie Company, to see what they will do to help me with this blue plastic base that broke at the screws and now is only held in by the wires that power the two light bulbs in the unit.

$7.50 shipping and handling for the replacement motor cover, after several minutes on the phone, they tell me the blue cover is obsolete and that I would only be able to get the black.

This opener has a lifetime warranty, and a piece like this breaks, shows that the quality of the plastic parts is not very good. You can see from the pictures below:

The call lasted about 30 minutes to take care of and it cost me $7.50. I’ll see when I get the part, it doesn’t look too hard to install.
The representative had no interest in taking back the part, which kind of surprised me. I would think if you have a product out there and it is failing you want to get it back to look at the quality.

Here’s the pictures of the broken part:

(I guess this also serves as proof that I own the unit)

So I got a call back from Vicki who was the rep, calling from Unknown caller ID, which I really don’t like. Anyway they want to have a copy of the receipt on file to activate my warranty, faxed to (330) 821-1927 Attn Vicki, do they have email? Not many people use faxes I thought…
