Flip is closing down, yes, sorry for the bad news. Approximately 550 jobs are being eliminated in the move.
Cisco has decided to close down the Flip division.
As we know most cell phones can shoot video. The question is that quality is improving on cell phones and will soon be that of the Flip, and who wants to carry yet another device.
I am one that still carries around a cell phone and digital camera, because the quality and flexibility of the cell phone is not equal to that of the digital camera, although it is catching up.
Pure Digital was the company that Cisco acquired several years ago for approx 600 millions of dollars.
John Chambers made the “bold move” rather than find a creative way to keep the company alive, many ceo’s are choosing the easy way, cut cut cut, could Linksys be next, we have already seen the diminishing use the off the brand at the consumer level and the quality of the Linksys product is really no better than it was before, actually it could be worse. So how much did Cisco pay for Linksys? Â Approximately $500 million in stock and other assumptions, so Linksys was purchased for less and apparently has been more profitable than Flip?
Disclaimer: I am a Cisco stock holder.
