Feds Probing Carrier IQ on Privacy Allegations Cell Phone Usage Data

Federal investigators are looking into allegations that Carrier IQ software tracked and sent consumer information to cellphone companies without permission, The Washington Post reported Wednesday, citing government officials.

Carrier IQ executives were reported to have traveled to Washington on Tuesday to meet with officials from the Federal Trade Commission. The executives also met with officials from the Federal Communications Commission.

Allegations that the software company was giving out user activity surfaced when a security researcher discovered that a piece of software developed by the company was found on smartphones, tracked keystrokes and text messages, and sent that information to carriers.
