Famous Sunday Hollywood Farmers Market in Jeopardy? Must Save!

In the past few weeks there has been much discussion about the possible demise of the Hollywood Sunday Farmer’s Market, due to the a position from the blocks off two of the Los Angeles Film School’s parking lots, that has decided that it needs to have access to its building during the hours of the market, on Sundays from 8-2pm.

The market blocks off a few blocks due to the size of the market. The Hollywood Farmer’s Market is an institution having been around for approaching 20 years!!

About 50 farmers could lose spaces, forfeiting about $3 million annually that supports 120 employees, according to Pompea Smith, head of the organization that runs the market.

Sign the petition to save the market here: https://www.farmernet.com

Everyone should sign the petition!  Even if you like to shop at Whole Foods and Trader Joes.  The good that comes from Farmers Markets is essential to our communities, this is about more than the Hollywood Farmers Market, but about what the market stands for and what it does for the community and what Pompea fights for every day! Save the market.
And, is the school even opened on Sundays 8-2?
The city needs to step in and offer a solution. Perhaps reserve spaces in a nearby lot for those needing to get into the school parking lot?

The Hollywood Farmers’ Market will be open this Sunday, December 12, 2010, at its usual time and place.

While we are happy to announce that the City has issued the Market a 4-week permit to continue operating, until early January, the issue is not resolved.
