Eye-Fi wireless enabled memory cards

If you’re the kind of person that loves taking digital photos and is constantly sharing them with friends and family through online social networks, then you’ll love this new product from ‘Eye–Fi’ company. They’ve been manufacturing wireless enabled memory cards for some time now; if you’re not familiar with these products, they look just like standard flash and SD cards that you use with digital cameras, mobile phones etc. except that they have the ability to transmit your images to a nearby computer.

You don’t need to worry about bringing the right USB cable or memory card adaptor with you to connect to a computer and upload the images. Whenever you want to transfer your photos or video to a computer you just need to switch on your digital camera with the eye-fi card inside and it will automatically upload the contents via a wireless link. If you’re part of a social network, like twitter or facebook, you can adjust the cards settings to automatically upload them to your online account.

You’ll never run out of memory card space again, as long as you’re near a shop or café with wifi enabled, you’ll be able to upload your finished media and continue with your photo shoot. Currently there is two version of the wifi-card, which are upgrades on the first older version:

Eye-Fi Connect X2 – At 4GB capacity, the Eye-Fi Connect X2 will automatically upload JPEG photos and videos to the computer and one of more than 25 online sharing sites, such as Flickr, Facebook, YouTube or Picasa, through a Wi-Fi network. MSRP: $49.99.

Eye-Fi Explore X2 – At 8GB of capacity, the Eye-Fi Explore X2 will automatically upload JPEG photos and videos to the computer and one of more than 25 online sharing sites. It offers lifetime automatic geotagging so photos and videos arrive at the user’s computer with location information already included to identify where the image was captured. Explore X2 also offers one year of hotspot access for uploading away from home at more 21,000 AT&T and Harborlink locations across the Unites States and through open hotspots. MSRP: $99.99.
