Data breach at email list provider AWeber

I just received this email about a breach over at AWeber. Apparently if you are on an email list hosted by AWeber you could have been compromised.

Just learned about AWeber’s security breach… ouch. Going to have to look into a new mailing list service provider.

Largest data breach in email marketing history? Aweber subscriber lists stolen https://bit.ly/5R3n0a #executive #cio #it #email

Dear Colleague,

We have recently learned that there was a data breach at the
service we used to send emails to this list, and that you may
have received spam as a result.

We sincerely regret this incident, which was entirely beyond our
control. The breach occurred at AWeber.com, a widely-used email
firm, and they acknowledged it in this blog post:

It has been called the biggest breach in email marketing history:

A number of well-known sites with much bigger lists than ours
were affected, for example:

AWeber has eliminated the weakness that led to this breach, but
unfortunately there is nothing we can do about the fact that some
email addresses are now in the hands of the bad guys.

We are unhappy with the fact that AWeber chose not to notify us
of this breach, and we are considering alternative solutions.

Rest assured that we remain committed to our policy of never
renting or selling our mailing lists.

Thanks,
