Costco Accepting Food Stamps

Yes, that is correct Costco is now accepting Food Stamps.

The first area to start accepting is New York, which is where the test was run and many members joined because of the very fact that food stamps were accepted by Costco.

One of the shocking stats is that 36 million people(Americans!) are on government food subsidies just to eat!

Costco officials hope to have the program where Food Stamps are accepted by all stores by the end of the year. There are regulations that are required on a state by state basis. A portion of the 407 US stores are expected to be accepting the stamps before the Thanksgiving holiday.

This is surely a smart move by Costco as the retailing landscape is becoming more competitive. On a personal note, I have not really noticed less shoppers at the Costco I shop, but it is hard to say if shoppers are buying less, or buying less expensive items, but it seems that would be the case based on looking at the shopping carts in the store and the throngs of people in line for various food samples.

We could not locate anything on the official site costco.com
