Catalytic Converter Thefts

Since the end of March of 2015, a regional catalytic converter theft trend has emerged, most likely the work of a 1+ crews. Toyota Camrys, Toyota Sequoias, and Honda Elements are the most frequently targeted vehicles. Vehicles parked in the street outside housing complexes are the most common target, although the parking structure at 149 N Halstead recently had 3 vehicles hit. The key time regionally that these have occurred is between 0000-0100 hours.

3 reported thefts of catalytic converters since Apr. 9 2015

•The last catalytic converter theft prior to these 3 was in early Jan. 2015.

Vehicles targeted: •2003 Silver Toyt Camry (now a common target in Glendale/Burbank), Gray Honda Element

•Location type: •Outside apartment complexes on the street

•Sell for $40-200; Replacements cost ~$1000
•Days/Times currently unk. – both day/night aren’t out of the question
•Only takes ~3 minutes to steal
