Amazon going to battle with the State of California over Taxes – after terminating thousands of affiliates

Today we are learning that Amazon has field for a ballot measure to fight the recently passed measure that would require companies out of the state of California to collect sales tax. The law went into effect July 1, 2011.

The ballot measure could appear in the 2012 election. A little late for some, but how will the past bode for Amazon, who is estimated to owe at least 83,000 in taxes uncollected to the state of California.

The law is supposed to create a level playing field for local and nationwide retailers when selling in California.
But most would buy from out of state large items and save the tax.

In addition most counties in California now have a lower tax rate lowered by 1%.

We will watch this story closely as it affects thousands of transactions every day.
