Amazon Cloud Drive provides customers with reliable, secure server storage. Each file is stored within Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3); the same highly scalable, reliable, fast, data storage infrastructure that Amazon uses to run its own global network of web sites.
Access to your Cloud Drive is controlled through your Amazon.com user ID and password. All communications are encrypted using HTTPS, so that your data can pass securely over the Internet.
Do I need to make a purchase to use Cloud Drive?
No, if you have an Amazon account, you have access to 5 GB of free online storage on Amazon Cloud Drive. If you purchase an album from the Amazon MP3 Store, you may be eligible for a free upgrade to 20 GB of Cloud Drive space for one year (this promotion is open to U.S. customers only). New Amazon MP3 purchases delivered to Cloud Drive do not count against a customer’s storage space. If you need more storage space, paid plans are available for storage up to 1,000 GB.
What kinds of files can I store on Cloud Drive?
Amazon Cloud Drive allows customers to upload their digital files: music, photos, videos, documents, and more can be stored securely and available via web browser on any computer. New Amazon MP3 purchases delivered to Cloud Drive do not count against a customer’s storage space.
Do my Amazon MP3 Purchases count against my storage quota?
Any Amazon MP3 purchases that you elect to store on your Cloud Drive at the time of purchase do not count against your storage quota. You can see all the MP3 tracks that are not counted against your storage quota in the Your Amazon MP3 Purchases list.
Previous Amazon MP3 purchases that you manually upload to your Cloud Drive are counted against your storage quota.
Where is Amazon Cloud Drive available?
The 5 GB free storage plan is available to all Amazon.com customers, however further upgrades to the storage plan are currently unavailable in the following countries:

*SmugMug, Zmanda Cloud Backup, Ubuntu One, Tumblr, SugarSync and Dropbox use Amazon’s S3 storage service. – So quit with how this kills Dropbox please. Dropbox/SugarSync are mature front-ends to Amazon’s service. Amazon’s S3 web upload is worse than FTP. It’s really only useful for a personal music collection. They do not provide public URLs unless you setup a faux account to allow friends to log in, but if too many IP addresses logged in, it would be quick to trigger alerts on Amazon’s end. Google Docs offers 1GB. Dropbox offers 2GB. SugarSync offers 5GB.
