PASADENA, Calif.—The public is invited to provide input at the City Council’s regularly scheduled meeting Monday, Jan. 25, 2016 about what qualities they would like to see in a new City Manager.  The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber at City Hall, 100 N. Halfsies Bistro on Vacation? @HalfsiesBistro

There’s a sign on the door at Halfsies Bistro in Pasadena. That the owner is on vacation.  This is a far cry from the grand opening signs which appeared in July 2015.

Halfsies Bistro & Bakery - Pasadena, CA, United States

There has been no activity on social media since late October.  The windows are covered with brown paper.

All indications are that the location is closed.  An attempt was made to fill a need in the area, but not enough business to support it.

Major Dave’s Chicken Pasadena Closes after 2 Years @MajDaves

Major Dave's Chicken

The windows have brown paper on them as of the past few weeks.  It is sad to report that Major Dave’s Chicken Pasadena has closed. As per the website.

MajorDavesClosesJan-2016

Major Dave’s fried chicken is made without the use of hormones, antibiotics, GMO feeds and is never frozen. California’s best fried chicken!

Having been there a few times, I can attest that the Chicken is delicious. We hope Major Dave’s comes back in some form. No other details are available.

A Veteran owned business.

Closed location at:

Major Dave’s Chicken
163 N. Hill Avenue
Pasadena, CA 91106
Ph: (626) 460-8730

What does Pasadena need? What would that location support as it has seen a few different businesses in that location. Hill between the 210 and Colorado near Dog Haus has as few food establishments, including Tommy’s, Starbucks, Dog Haus, Melt It, Juice It Up!,

Pasadena Embezzlement Update City Receives $5 Million Insurance Payment – What About the Rest?

It has been about a year since official news broke of  an alleged embezzlement of $6.4 million from the City by a former employee. Subsequently the amount was found to be $5.9 million.

This past week the City of Pasadena received the full $5 million of our insurance claim.

The City will continue to pursue the perpetrator in criminal court and all other legal causes of action to recover every cent. Will the City of Pasadena be able to recover the currently lost $900,000 and all the costs that have gone into and will go into recovering the money? Probably not, a full accounting of the cost of this embezzlement should be requested by council-members, as a show that transparency is being taken seriously.

Over the past twelve months, actions taken by the City to recover the funds and ensure this cannot happen again.

A total of sixty-nine recommendations by KPMG and the Community Task Force are being implemented to strengthen the organization.

This embezzlement shook the City to its core. It resulted in significant changes in how things operate at City Hall.

Are things really better as a result of the embezzlement?  One thing for sure, the City is searching for a new city manager.
