Slated to open on November 12, 2014, The Spice Factory at 80 S Fair Oaks in Pasadena is sure to be the talk of the food scene if it isn’t already. In its soft opening the buzz has been good, now we wait for the opening on Wednesday.
This is the dream of Dr. Raj Pandita who puts is sweat and soul into creating one of the best Indian cuisine establishments in the area. With over 250 unique recipes and flavors that are traditional to Indian cuisine.
Pasadena has a growing Indian population and with that the opportunity to serve a growing audience.
The brain behind ‘The Spice Factory’, Dr. Raj Pandita, a Kashmiri Indian by birth, is the chairman of Aahaara Group, a non-profit organization. In over 20 years of his stay here in USA Dr. Raj, a food enthusiast, has travelled all over, in search of authentic Indian eateries. His desire is to eat at the places where he would relish Indian food that looks Indian, smells Indian and tastes Indian too.

Let me preface this posting by saying, that I am fan of Groupon and will continue to purchase Groupons.
If you are like me you have been purchasing Groupons for several years and many have been redeemed. But what about those you purchased as an impulse buy and thought you would use but never got around to it. But beyond not using the Groupon, what if that business has closed.
I just went through My Groupon and out of the 130 purchases, over half are used(Yeah), but of those not redeemed at least fifteen I could not use because the businesses are closed.
So far I have filled out the Groupon customer support form with all the necessary details, two have been credited, waiting for the others. Updated- Groupon has responded and it appears that most of the Groupon purchases I submitted for refund/credit have been processed, no apparently issues.
I the past when I have emailed Groupon has been pretty good about crediting the account so you can purchase another Groupon.
Take a look at your Groupon account and in particular those for expired Groupons and do a pass to check if the business is still open.
How big of a problem is this for Groupon when businesses run a Groupon and collect the money and then shortly thereafter close.
Would it be good practice for Groupon to notify others who have purchased a Groupon for a business once the business is verified closed? It may mean that Groupon would be issuing Groupon Bucks for Groupons most likely forgotten by the purchasers.
Usually if the business is closed you will first receive an email from Groupon something like this:
I’m really sorry for the trouble you’ve experienced with your Groupon. Our Resolutions Team is here to help with these situations, so I’m letting them know what’s up. After they’ve looked into this, one of us will get back to you.
Thanks for your patience. We’ll be sure to let you know when we’ve got an update.
Groupon Customer Support
Then the next email a few hours later usually. (Groupon is especially responsive on the weekends via email)
I’m sorry for any trouble you’ve experienced with redeeming your Groupon.
Unfortunately, we are also having difficulty getting in touch with this business. At this point, we’ve decided it’s best for our customers to cancel this deal and offer a refund to anyone who was unable to redeem their Groupon. We’re in the process of notifying our customers, but I want to make sure you’re taken care of today.
I’ve just issued a $32 refund in Groupon Bucks to your account. The Bucks are available immediately, never expire, and automatically apply to your next purchase. You can see your balance in the top right corner of the page when signed into your account at www.groupon.com/mygroupons.
My apologies again for any inconvenience.
Groupon Customer Support
I’m sorry you weren’t able to enjoy this Groupon. I’ve just canceled this order and issued $5 in Groupon Bucks to your account. This credit will be available for you to use shortly, and you’ll receive an email as soon as it has processed.
Any Groupon Bucks you have will apply to a purchase automatically. You can see your balance in the top right corner of the page when signed into your account at www.groupon.com/mygroupons.
Please let me know if I can help you further.
Groupon Customer Support
As consumers and supporters of Groupon could we ask Groupon to notify those who have purchased a Groupon which the business has closed. Even though the amount of money is substantial, I would guess in the whole picture the goodwill and re-engagement of customers who may not be as active could outweigh the cost to Groupon. Thoughts?

This from our friends at Culture Club 101, don’t miss out on some of the perks for supporting this worthwhile venture. There are over 130 contributors to the campaign.
Dear Culture Club 101 Members and Friends,
Thank you so much for your love and support while we have been shut down. Your encouragement is taken to heart.
As most of you know, we have been working on a crowdfunding campaign to rebuild what we lost…and to create an even better resource center!
Our Kickstarter campaign has officially launched, and this next week is critical!
Culture Club 101 and Real Food Devotee are teaming up to create the Real Food Culture Kitchen, a SoCal community resource for traditional, nutrient-dense Real Food. We want to serve you better, and expand to help even more people. We cannot make this happen without your help and the help of our core community.
Let’s build the Real Food Culture Kitchen together:
- a commercial kitchen for traditional Real Food preparation
- a store where you can find all your Real Food pantry essentials, supplies and equipment-advice and troubleshooting included
- a training, mentoring, and learning center
- a cafe and tasting room for pop-up dinners
- expanded product offerings and home deliveries
How will we make this happen?
- Check out the Real Food Culture Kitchen Project and pledge your support.
- Receive Real Food rewards for the pledges you make. (Tip: You can pick multiple rewards by using different email addresses.)
- Share the link https://bit.ly/realfoodculturekitchen with everyone on your email list and all your social media contacts (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.) and with any who would benefit from a change in our food system.
|This next week is critical because we are now in “Soft Launch” mode. If you’re able to support our new efforts, it will be most helpful to make your contribution in the next week or so.|
The proven strategy is that if funds are already accumulating by the time we initiate the “Hard Launch” to the general public, they will see this as a worthwhile project-good for the community, worth following and supporting. People want to join a winning team!
But here’s the catch: If we don’t reach our goal by the end of November, we won’t receive any of the funds.
If you have any questions or need help navigating the KickStarterwebsite please don’t hesitate to call.
For those who offered to help get the word out, please contact us; we’re teaming up to make it happen now. Time is of the essence!
With Love and Appreciation,
Elaina and the Culture Club 101 Team
