Are you looking for a Food Co-Op in the Pasadena, Altadena, Arcadia, Sierra Madre, San Marino, San Gabriel, Alhambra, La Canada, areas?
There’s about 170 members/believers in the now forming Arroyo Food Co-op. A committed group has tirelessly put efforts into making it a reality at least on paper, there is still a drive to get to 200 members, then 500 by the end of the year.
The general area of Pasadena/Altadena does not have a co-op and this would fill that need.
As we continue to see the proliferation of farmer’s markets, and markets like Whole Foods, Sprouts and Henry’s, the food co-op will surely fill a space that true community co-opportunity.
You can see what the Arroyo Co-op is doing and join here for as little $30/ year or become a full member at $300. There are all sorts of benefits to becoming a member, but the most important is knowing that you are supporting a local organization. The Arroyo Co-Op is neither a for profit nor non-profit organization, but one that strives to improve and grow and it takes money.
If you are interested in hosting one of the meetings, the groups meetings are now about 30 people or more judging by the one held last night at Cafe Alibi in Old Town Pasadena.

Pacific Asia Museum Announces
PASADENA (July 23, 2010) – Pacific Asia Museum announced that Executive Director, Joan Marshall would be stepping down in August to assume the position of Executive Director of the Texas State History Museum in Austin, Texas.
“Joan has transformed the museum over the last seven years,” said Board Chair, Margaret Leong. Under her leadership, the museum achieved accreditation from the American Association of Museums as well as financial stability. Significant upgrades improved the museum’s historic building and infrastructure. In addition, the museum opened its first family education gallery, Journeys: The Silk Road, and the new Mosher Gallery of Japanese Art. The museum also presented a number of widely acclaimed exhibitions including Beyond the Page: Contemporary Art from Pakistan and Calligraffiti: Writing in Contemporary Chinese and Latino Art. Cultural programming and outreach expanded and attendance nearly doubled.
Ms Marshall said, “I have loved working with the staff and Board at Pacific Asia Museum – we have accomplished a great deal together. The museum’s collection, historic building and courtyard garden are real treasures. While many museums are struggling with their identity, Pacific Asia Museum’s identity has always been one of promoting a deeper understanding and a more personal appreciation for other cultures through the arts. This mission remains increasingly relevant today. It’s not easy to say goodbye, but the museum is in good hands and has a bright future ahead.”
The museum has formed a search committee to manage the transition.
Pacific Asia Museum is one of only four institutions in the United States dedicated exclusively to the arts and culture of Asia and the Pacific Islands. The museum serves a broad and expanding audience of students, families, adults, and scholars through its education and outreach programs. The museum presents a mix of contemporary and historic exhibitions in its galleries and has a permanent collection of 15,000 objects spanning 4,000 years. Pacific Asia Museum is located at 46 North Los Robles Avenue, Pasadena, California, 91101. The Museum is open Wednesday through Sunday 10 am to 6 pm. Admission is $9 general, $7 students/seniors, and free for children ages 11 and younger. Admission is free every 4th Friday of the month.

I’ve been buying Stremicks Heritage Foods Organic Vitamin D Milk with Omega-3 DHA.
One thing that I noticed initially was that the milk has a much much longer shelf life, apparently it is Ultra Pasteurized and homogenized. I’m sure this has something to do with it. But I plan to reach out to the company and find out.
I have a carton that I bought last week that is good until Sept 7, 2010.
EH3 2 10:33 0608 B.
Ingredients: Organic Milk, DHA Algal Oil, Vitamin D3.
Very hard to find any container of regular milk that is good for that long.
I’m sure you have to drink it within 7 days of opening.

Did you hear about the Kings of Leon stopping their show in St. Louis, after three songs. Apparently a bunch of pigeons on the rafters of the stage, decided to start pooping on the band, with some poop landing on the face of the lead singer.
Look at drummer’s reaction at 1:12
Lead singer wipes his face at the end and immediately exit
After this song, they announce that the concert cannot go on due to “security reasons”
