Exemplary Service Award

Mayor Bill Bogaard

Bill Bogaard has served as Mayor of Pasadena since 1999, when he became the City’s first directly elected mayor. A champion of education matters during his tenure, he co-founded Pasadena: City of Learning—a collaborative of representatives of area non-profits and other institutions that works toward a goal of excellent life-long learning opportunities for all in our community. More recently, Mayor Bogaard, along with the Pasadena City Council, city staff, the PUSD School Board, and district staff, has charted our community on the course of a promising and important new partnership known as the School/City/Community Work Plan. The foundation is proud to celebrate Mayor Bogaard and his tireless work on behalf of quality public education in our community.

Pasadena City Hall

Completed in 1927, Pasadena City Hall is one of the crown jewels of Pasadena. Designed by the San Francisco architecture firm of Bakewell and Brown, it combines elements of both Mediterranean Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival Style architecture and is inspired by the 16th century Italian architect Andrea Palladio’s work.  The Courtyard has a strong Colonial influence with a cast stone Baroque fountain as the focal point. Paths of crushed granite define the flower beds and cloistered arches paved with red Padre tiles surround the courtyard. California live oak trees provide shade for azaleas, hydrangeas, and rhododendron and beds of annuals that are planted on a rotational basis.
