DeVry University & Federal Trade Commission Reach Resolution

DeVry University & Federal Trade Commission Reach Resolution

I am pleased to share that DeVry University settled its litigation with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regarding our use of graduate employment statistics in past advertising campaigns.

This matter was essentially a disagreement about how to calculate and represent graduate employment data. That being said, continuing with prolonged legal proceedings would require investing significant resources, time and energy, which would be better directed toward our programs and services that support our students. With this in mind, we have chosen to resolve this matter and put it behind us.

What is important for you to know…

  • At no time did the FTC accuse DeVry University of any fraudulent acts. At its core, this was a disagreement about how to calculate and represent graduate employment statistics.
  • At no time has the FTC challenged the value of a DeVry education or its academic quality. DeVry University remains accredited by The Higher Learning Commission (HLC). The HLC is a regional accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
  • DeVry University has agreed to forgive unpaid balances on University loans issued before September 30, 2015. DeVry’s Institutional Loan Program (ILP) is different than the U.S. federal student loan program. With the ILP, DeVry University is the lender. Accordingly, DeVry University is agreeing to forgive loans where it is the lender. This will have no impact on loans taken from the federal government or a bank.

Those current and former students who are eligible for ILP forgiveness will receive a notification via email and U.S. mail within 30 days of the court approving the settlement. No action is necessary until the notification email and/or letter are received.

  • DeVry University also agreed to forgive student account balances for some former DeVry University students. Those former students who are identified for student account balance forgiveness will be notified via email and U.S. mail within 30 days of the court approving the settlement. No action is necessary until the notification email and/or letter are received.

This resolution will not hinder our ability to provide high-quality education and support service to our students – what we call DeVry University Care. Should you have any questions about this settlement, we encourage you to call the Student Contact Center at 800.865.0403.

When inventor and educator Dr. Herman DeVry founded our university in 1931, he established a pioneering spirit of innovation and a commitment to career success for his students. We are honored and privileged to carry on that tradition by helping students change their lives for the better and improve the world around us, just as you are doing today. On behalf of DeVry University, I thank you for your continued support of your alma mater.

Sincerely,

Robert Paul
President, DeVry University

1 Billion Yahoo Accounts Hacked in 2013 #yahoohack @yahoo

Yahoo has announced that over 1 billion accounts have been hacked, this in addition to previous incident, the other being 500 million hacked accounts.

Apparently this is an August 2013 breach that was just revealed or discovered.

Read this notice sent to Yahoo users who may have been hacked.

Yahoo said an unauthorized third party stole data in August 2013. The data may have included names, email addresses, dates of birth, telephone numbers and encrypted passwords.

Verizon has made a deal to purchase Yahoo, we will see where things head from here. Does this help Verizon? Probably not, because it exposes Verizon to huge class action lawsuits that will devalue Yahoo to a penny stock. It could cut the purchase price by at least 20%.

If the accounts Yahoo used to value the acquisition by Verizon, then some further investigation should be done into how many of those accounts are “active” accounts.

Can The DOW Break 20,000 Before 2017?

With less than 20 days before 2016 comes to a close, some are wondering if the stock market DOW can break past 20,000, it is within reach, perhaps the run up after the election with Trump the “elected” President of the United States, many believed that things would get worse right away, perhaps it will take time before we see the impacts of Trump’s selected cabinet appointments, there is plenty of evidence that those with money will make more money, the rich will get richer.

Will Trump and his team “make American  Great Again”, is to be seen.

Trump apparently claiming to have sold all his stock assets, in June of 2016 is also very interesting.

That Warren Buffett’s holdings have increased in value by many billions after the election is also of interest.

Will Trump ever release his tax returns, and are those who voted for him starting to believe he may not keep his word?

Does Trump really tweet his own tweets, or does a team of people led by family member named Project Alamo control the media for Trump.

Just over the weekend the CIA and Trump are clashing over the Russian  involvement in the election.

There are many concerns developing and Trump replacing those he can replace with those who serve his interest or as payback for helping his campaign or causes.

We need to understand how a progressive agenda – built on values of inclusion and acceptance of all people – can move forward in the age of Trump.

We are honored to hear from Congresswoman Judy Chu (D-CA 27th) about how she will play an instrumental role in DC.

There will be time for Q & A, moderated by Rabbi Joshua Levine Grater, and we will end with an inspiring list of collective actions we can all take.

Refreshments will be served.

Chaparral Mountain Honey Company is a family-owned company located in the foothills of Altadena with over 35 years of beekeeping experience.

Follow on facebook for ways to purchase

Our most common honey varieties include:
Orange honey, gathered from orange trees in California’s Central Valley.
Sage honey, gathered from black & white sage flowers growing in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains; sage honey is a unique California product.
Buckwheat honey from buckwheat flowers growing in the foothills of Glendale and Eagle Rock.
Premium honey, harvested in the fall; it contains nectars from eucalyptus, sage, mustard, buckwheat, sumac, jacaranda, and many other flowers.
Altadena Gold wildflower, a summer harvest honey, gathered from native chaparral plants such as sage, sumac, toyon, buckwheat, and some garden flowers.
Angel’s Kiss honey, gathered at 3300 ft, and includes nectar from Yerba Santa and other higher elevation wildflowers; it has a tangy flavor.
Almond honey, collected during pollination in February from trees in the Central Valley. This honey has a nice balanced flavor, but some people get a bitter aftertaste, so be sure to taste before you buy.
Avocado honey, from nectar gathered during avocado pollination in Temecula. The unusual strong taste is reminiscent of molasses and the honey is good used in gingerbread and spice cake.
Jacaranda honey, from the lovely purple-flowered trees that bloom in May-June. The honey is dark with a slightly caramelized taste.
