Panel discussion at the Skirball – “Turn Your Radio On: Bill Graham and the Rise of FM Radio”

Visitors to the Skirball Cultural Center on Sunday, July 26, have a unique opportunity to recall the tumultuous rise of FM radio as told by pioneers in the field, including Raechel Donahue, Ben Fong-Torres, and Bonnie Simmons. Moderated by KPCC’s Alex Cohen.

The explosion of rock concerts in the ’60s coincided with the rise of FM radio. As radio DJs experimented with this new format—dubbed “freeform”—they were instrumental in the promotion of Bill Graham’s famed concerts. Cohen, Graham’s goddaughter, facilitates this discussion with Donahue (KSAN, KMET, KROQ, and KIIS), Fong-Torres (KSAN and rock journalist), and Simmons (KSAN and executive director of the Bill Graham Memorial Foundation). Reserve tickets in advance or purchase at the door. For more information, visit the Skirball site.
