Public Fruit Jam with Fallen Fruit

Sunday, August 10, 11am to 2pm

Make jam and make friends!

Join us for a fun and friendly, fruit-filled Sunday Funday with a Fallen Fruit Public Jam Session on Sunday, August 10 from 11am – 2pm!

This is Fallen Fruits’ first Public Jam in two years!  It will be a perfectly sweet afternoon of making jam with pals new and old.  This is a great social and community-building event for kids, adults, families and even first dates.

Bring home-grown or picked public fruit and join jam teams of 3 to 5 people.  You’ll work with folks you may not have met before to make your jam.  The ingredients can be anything you bring along.  Fallen Fruit encourages exploring experimental jams, such as basil guava or lemon pepper jelly.  Almost all fruits can be jammed, even bananas – if you dare!

Drop by anytime between 11am – 2pm for the jam session.  Each session runs approximately 45 minutes from cutting to preserving. Fallen Fruit staffers will be on hand to help out.  In the end, you will have jam to keep, swap and contribute to the communal tasting table where you can enjoy the fruits of your labors.  And who knows – you may also leave with a new Jam Session BFF!

About Fallen Fruit:

Fruit exists in all cultures, within all social classes and has rich symbolism in art and cultural ceremony.  In theme and variation, Fallen Fruit’s work focuses on using fruit as a way to advance dialogues about cities, property, ecology, community and citizenship. Fallen Fruit uses fruit as a common denominator to expand the way you see the world.

Conceived in 2004 by David Burns, Matias Viegener and Austin Young, Fallen Fruit is a collaborative art project that began in Los Angeles with the group’s mapping of Public Fruit, fruit from trees growing on or over public property.   Since 2013, David and Austin have continued Fallen Fruit’s collaborative work. Fallen Fruit projects include photographic portraits, experimental documentary videos, public art installations and curatorial projects.   Their work has spawned and inspired events around the world.
