Government Shutdown We Are Closed

For the first time in 17 years the US Government is closed with 800,000 government workers affected.

The impact to the economy is substantial estimated at over $1 billion for every 21 days the budget is not resolved.

You will continue to receive mail.

National Parks will be closed.

But Congress which is responsible for this situation still gets paid, is protected from wage cuts, what a disgrace. They cause the mess, are paid to continue it and don’t really care.

57. Would Congress continue to be paid during a shutdown? Yes. The 27th Amendment to the Constitution, ratified in 1992, holds that “No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of representatives shall have intervened.” Intended to prevent Congress from voting itself a raise, it also protects members from a pay cut.
