626 Night Market Persists in World’s Largest Cup of Boba Tea Project
ARCADIA, Calif. (July 22, 2013)—626 Night Market persists in building the World’s Largest Cup of Boba Tea to commemorate the beloved drink—despite not meeting its Kickstarter campaign goals—with the help of the local business community and community volunteers. Determined to realize this project, the 626 Night Market team aims to collaborate with local business sponsors to fund the giant boba cup.
“We are ecstatic that the business community is rallying to help us out and that we’re pressing on,” says Patricia Huang, 626 Night Market vendor manager and co-manager of this project. “This reflects 626 Night Market’s familiar story: we rebound and find ways to succeed. The Kickstarter campaign may not go through but we will rise above it and persevere as always.”
There will be a special unveiling ceremony for the cup at the 626 Night Market on Saturday, August 3rd, at 5PM at the Santa Anita Park Front Garden Paddock. Boba milk tea will be served from the cup on Saturday, August 3rd to a limited number of people.
About the Giant Boba Cup
The cup itself will be 6 feet tall, made of plexiglass, and situated on a 2.5 feet high platform. The straw will extend its height an additional 3.5 feet resulting in a grand total height of 12 feet. It will hold 320 gallons of tea—over 2,500 cups of a standard 16 oz. boba drink—and will weigh approximately 2,700 lbs, heavier than an average sedan.
