AT&T U-Verse Upgrade From DSL Guide

So this past week I decided to move forward with upgrading from DSL to U-Verse after some thought, it seemed to make sense. AT&T is discontinuing DSL services, so if you haven’t received notice, expect to soon.

So I received the kit to make the “upgrade” the box is at least 10 times the size of my DSL modem, already a big problem for people with small places. I received a 2WIRE 3600HGV.

Even the Motorola cable modem that Charter uses for internet is tiny, even smaller that a couple packs of cigarettes. So maybe this is a case where AT&T things people will believe that because the box is bigger it is better….

There are filters provided so there is no interference with regular phones. So do the existing DSL line filters work or do I need to use these new filters? Does anyone know?

My DSL service is currently a PRO service which is supposed to be:
Downstream Speed: Up to 6.0 Mbps
Upstream Speed: Up to 768 Kbps

I am lucky to get 5 Mpbs down and 600 Kbps up.

So it will be interesting with the U-Verse service if that improves, when we have Charter offering 100 Mbps down and 5-10 Mbps up. This AT&T service pales in comparison.

I am giving AT&T a chance to see what they can do, but I am not hopeful. AT&T wireless service has not improved one bit regardless of the countless promises that better service is coming.
