Hot off the Presses

Whenever our buyers sit down to a meal, they are on the job. And you just never know where the next bite or sip will lead. Take the tale of our Vintage Press Cabernet:

While dining at a favorite pizza enoteca in Northern California, our buyer was casually eyeballing the bottles of wine lining the walls. When asked what he would like to drink with his wood-fired pie, he pointed to a curiously conspicuous label – “that one.” Good eye. A few sips in, he realized how good it really was: moderate tannins, juicy fruit, nice spice… so he reiterated his intent, “I’d like to take that one.” Of course, he meant that he wanted to take it to Trader Joe’s. Well, all right then. The restauranteur recognized the very real potential, and agreed to provide us with this excellent Napa Valley Cabernet, on one condition: we must remove their label to protect the brand. Done. And along with the label, we took off the ritzy restaurant price tag. Now, that’s a good deal! It really is: our Vintage Press 2010 Napa Valley Cabernet is only $8.99* for each 750 ml bottle. Oak-aged for nine months, it boasts aromas of dark fruits and spice, edged with tobacco and cocoa, silky tannins and complex structure. It’s vintage Napa for typical TJ’s value.

Viticulture Veracity: While one of the world’s most famous red wine grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon was created relatively recently (17th century-ish) from a hybrid between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc.
