Pasadena South Lake Farmer’s Market Starts July 10, 2012
If you have driven down South Lake Ave in Pasadena you may have noticed the pole banners promoting the upcoming farmer’s market to be held on South Lake Ave in Pasadena.
From what the sign says and I am not able to confirm any details because there doesn’t appear to be anything online about it.
It starts July 10, 2012
Located at 251 S. Lake Ave, which appears to be the Corporate Business Center tall white buildings courtyard.
Operates on Tuesdays, from 10am-2pm.
We have no other details, but it appears to be organized by the South Lake Ave and Raw Inspirations(which operates many markets in the Southern California Area).
Unless you work in the South Lake Ave district it might be difficult for you to attend, as it is when most people work.
Stay tuned as the South Lake Ave district continues to grow.

GrillGrate is an award winning cooking surface with a raised rail design for gas, charcoal, or electric grills. The GrillGrate provides users with a unique grilling experience, searing in meat’s juices, controlling flare-ups and eliminating unwanted fat. Heat is driven up the raised rails for perfect steakhouse searing every time. Good juices sizzle just below the food and the fatty juices drain out through the elliptical fat draining holes. The drained fat chars the back of the GrillGrates and not your food.
GrillGrates can be placed directly on the existing grates of a grill and will last or outlast the life of the grill. Grillers can cook lean meats, fish, vegetables and even expand the regular grilling menu to include pastas and pizzas without burning or drying out food.
Grilling is as American as apple pie and has become part of our day-to-day lives. People are interested in eating healthy, are dining out less and are bringing the restaurant experience home. Over 60% of all Americans are grilling all year round, nearly half during the winter months.
The Original Raised Rail Design™ Delivers steakhouse searing every time while preventing charring flare-ups. Designed to drain fat through the elliptical holes, but keep good flavorful juices simmering just below the grilled food to aromatically seal in taste. A set of two GrillGrates = 10.5″ x 13.75″ cooking surface.
The GrateTool™ is no ordinary spatula. It fits in between the rails for easy lifting of delicate food and pizza and the GrateTool acts like a scooper for vegetables, or grilled asparagus, etc. The GrateTool doubles as a cleaning tool as well to scrape the valleys clear of debris. GrillGrate, Eat Well!

The 2013 Naval Base Ventura County Air Show at Point Mugu will feature the U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels. The Blue Angels operate the Boeing FA-18C Hornet strike/fighter aircraft.
“I am very excited to announce the Blue Angels will be returning back to Naval Base Ventura County for the first time in eight years,” said Capt. James McHugh, Commanding Officer, Naval Base Ventura County. “The Blue Angels will headline the 2013 Naval Base Ventura County Air Show at Point Mugu. The Blue Angel aerial maneuvers will exhibit the professional qualities of the Navy personnel, who fly, maintain and support the aircraft.” He added.
The Blue Angels were authorized for establishment by the Chief of Naval Operations, Admiral Chester W. Nimitz ordered the creation of the team on April 24, 1946. The Blue Angels flew at the first air show at Point Mugu known then as the Space Fair in 1960 operating the F11F-1 Tiger. The Blue Angels are home based at NAS Pensacola, FL.
More detailed air show information will be released as more military flight demonstrations are confirmed.
I love to support the local backyard gardner, and it really is upsetting when a gardner wants to share his bounty with others and asks for a small contribution to cover some of the expenses of growing vegetables.
Yes, this is what happened to a family that is growing vegetables in their yard.
They placed a table out front of their house with a self service setup and a bottle of money, well someone thought it would be a good idea to steal the money and had no interested in buying anything.
This is disgusting!
Motorcycle Accident Fatality on Walnut St Near Allen Pasadena June 23, 2012
Early this afternoon there was a serious motorcycle fatality accident on Walnut Ave, near Allen, the closest cross-street is Meridith near Tops Burger.
E Walnut St & N Meridith Ave
Here’s a view of the intersection.

There was talk at the scene about the driver of the motorcycle not wearing a proper head protection and that may have contributed to the death.
I’m sure a full report investigation will be completed by the Pasadena accident investigation and coroner’s office.

Updated 6-23-2012: I finally stopped in to this business, I had my dog Willie with me and as I was driving by I saw a table out front which was inviting. So I parked in the building which is convenient and if that parking is full you can always park in the Metro Del Mar Station lot for 90 minutes free.
The quality of the pastries is amazing. Apparently a famous Taiwanese baker is responsible.
The hours are typically late for the area, usually safe between 10am- 8pm, with Friday and Sat open until 10pm. The teas at Flour & Tea are from Taiwan and China.
Nancy Ou and Johnson Wang are the co-owners. I had the pleasure of meeting Johnson.
More on this fine establishment in the coming weeks. They have been opened for about 11 weeks.
The closest other tea type business is Bird Pick.
Flour + Tea Pasadena
Serves Ten Ren style (boba) milk teas and pastries.
The latest branch of the Taiwanese tea shop is located at the bottom of The Dalton, a mixed use condo.

If you do check it out, I’m curious to know if the tea quality is just about the same as Ten Rens/Tea Station in the San Gabriel/Arcadia area…

So this past week I decided to move forward with upgrading from DSL to U-Verse after some thought, it seemed to make sense. AT&T is discontinuing DSL services, so if you haven’t received notice, expect to soon.
So I received the kit to make the “upgrade” the box is at least 10 times the size of my DSL modem, already a big problem for people with small places. I received a 2WIRE 3600HGV.
Even the Motorola cable modem that Charter uses for internet is tiny, even smaller that a couple packs of cigarettes. So maybe this is a case where AT&T things people will believe that because the box is bigger it is better….
There are filters provided so there is no interference with regular phones. So do the existing DSL line filters work or do I need to use these new filters? Does anyone know?
My DSL service is currently a PRO service which is supposed to be:
Downstream Speed: Up to 6.0 Mbps
Upstream Speed: Up to 768 Kbps
I am lucky to get 5 Mpbs down and 600 Kbps up.
So it will be interesting with the U-Verse service if that improves, when we have Charter offering 100 Mbps down and 5-10 Mbps up. This AT&T service pales in comparison.
I am giving AT&T a chance to see what they can do, but I am not hopeful. AT&T wireless service has not improved one bit regardless of the countless promises that better service is coming.
Once upon a time the greatest advancement in computer games was Pong, our televisions were cable free and we enjoyed only a fraction of the channels available today. We were also stuck with solitary utility companies providing all of our energy services at rates we had no power to effect as a consumer.
In 2012, times are a changing and the consumer has never enjoyed such a large choice of energy providers. This choice creates competition and competition benefits the consumer in a number of different ways:
It drives innovation
Provides far more choice for the customer
It keeps energy costs as low as possible
SparkEnergy embodies everything that this new competitive market has to offer, but it isn’t just another run of the mill, flash in the pan organisation. Originally founded over ten years ago, SparkEnergy was one of the early pioneers in the retail energy business and the fact that it has continued to flourish in such a competitive market and in the face of the worst recession for many, many years, ably demonstrates it has the quality and the pedigree to deliver exactly what customers want from an energy provider.
SparkEnergy provide low-cost electricity and natural gas solutions from coast to coast and its customers have consistently benefited from significant savings at no loss in the quality of their service, you can even lock in a fixed rate for up to 24 months!
To see what a difference SparkEnergy could make to you; simply visit the site, enter your Zip Code and start saving today!
Chevachi have been making outstandingly beautiful timepieces, inspired by European style and fashion since 2008 and the quality of their offerings is as impressive today as it was at the time of the company’s inception.
Although the company’s name is derived from the ‘Knights of Europe’, their latest creation, the Chevachi-Niburu Planet X Collection is quite literally out of this world!
The mysterious star, Planet X-Niburu was the inspiration for Chevachi’s latest creation and at first glance might have seemed a strange choice. It did however, make perfect sense to the design team behind the Chevachi-Niburu Planet X Collection who confidently state, a watch without a design concept is a soulless concept and the story type narrative and the Universe concept have been blended together seamlessly to result in a collection that is anything but soulless!
The watches incorporate the following innovations:
A black and white monochrome colour scheme
44mm diameter watch case making it suitable for both men and women
Japanese-made Seiko calendar movement
Unidirectional rotating bezel
Dial plate with monochrome colour scheme, displaying time and date with a large illuminous dot
Fine dotted and line arrangement
Fan calendar window
If you are looking for something a little bit special as a gift for a loved one, or simply fancy treating yourself to a watch that diliberatley sets itself apart from the more mainstream offerings, perhaps you should consider the Chevachi-Niburu Planet X Collection , the watch that was inspired by a whole different planet!

Altadena Community Garden 38th Annual Picnic and Resource Fair
June 30, 2012 marks the 38th annual Altadena Community Garden Picnic & Resource Fair. The members of the community garden invite the public to join them for a barbeque lunch, self-guided garden tours and a community education and resource fair from 1 to 5PM in the community garden and Loma Alta Park, located at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Palm Street in Altadena. Lunch tickets are available for $8 in advance, $10 at the gate.
Gardeners provide hot and cold foods, many made from locally grown fruits and vegetables. Several gardeners will tend bbq grilles for 24 hours prior to the event, preparing ribs, chicken, beef hot links, veggie burgers and hot dogs for diners. Lemonade and sun tea, as well as sodas and bottled water, will be served, too.
The picnic is located inside the gates of the garden. Tables will be set up and decorated with seasonal flowers. The resource fair will be staged outside the garden gates in the circular roundabout south of the Loma Alta Park tennis courts. Featured events will be garden tours, Altadena Farmers Market, yoga and tennis demonstrations, local botanical gardens, blood pressure screenings, community safety and alert information, plus representatives from Lincoln Avenue Water Company, LA County Sheriff’s and Fire Department and other public and private agencies.
About The Garden
The three acre corner of Lincoln Avenue and Palm Street holds 65 plots for over 128 gardeners and associate gardeners. All pay annual dues, $73 for gardeners, $30 for associate gardeners. Quarterly general membership meetings are held to review the needs and activities of the garden. Current events include the development of a water conservation plan for the garden,, rainwater fruit tree orchard, garden corner beautification project, children gardening program and Common Ground Victory Garden class. Free seed packets are available to members at meetings.
The Garden was formed in 1973 by a group of West Altadena residents who wanted to garden with neighbors. The informal group chose an undeveloped plot of land to cultivate local, healthful fruits and vegetables. Soon the County of Los Angeles decided to build an equestrian ring at the area now known as Loma Alta Park, and the County Department of Parks and Recreation relocated the garden. Permanent fencing, irrigation and parking was installed by the County. The Community Garden members developed bylaws, installed fruit trees, herbs, roses, native plants and succulents in communal areas. ACG continues to work with the County to maintain the garden’s infrastructure and amenities. For members’ shared use are picnic areas, a shaded deck, tool sheds, and walkways. Membership dues provide hand tools, mulch and organic fertilizer.
Applications for new members are available at the garden. Further information, calendar, photos and garden contacts are available at the Altadena Community Garden website, www.altadenacommunitygarden.
