Altadena Urban Farmers Market – January 16, 2011

This weekend at the Zane Grey Estate you can attend the Altadena Urban Farmers Market. A wildly popular event with locals. While there is no fee to enter be prepared to sign-up for a membership that you have to fill out each time you attend.

Here’s a sampling of some of the vendors you can expect to see at the market this Sunday:

1. Ross Roast will be providing fresh bags of 5 different coffee origins for this Sundays Market. Columbia Supremo, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Ethiopia Yirgacheffe & Tanzania Peaberry. Samples available this month…looking to expand and sell cups of coffee next month! 🙂 www.rossroast.com

2. LekkerFit We’ll be using Zorthian Ranch honey in our savory GF “Triplicity” brittle at this Sunday’s Altadena Urban Farmers Market, a perfect cross-pollination of local raw product into yummy “value-added” snack…what’s your experience with winter farmers market offerings?  This month the LekkerFit chicks are focusing our menu on SNACKS! Make better choices to fuel your bod between meals with our GF savory nut & seed brittle, or try our GF ancient grains crackers for dipping into our nutrient-rich bean & roasted veggie dips. $1 back on any reusable glass jars too!!

LekkerFit, an Integrated Fitness Co. will be there w/other small-batch food vendors offering homemade, homegrown deliciousness!!

3.  Heather Campbell Morrow I will be there with my ceramics – new pieces are coming out of the kiln. In addition, I have a few special surprise from my garden.

4.  Michael Pacyna Daly Cakes will be bringing Blood Orange Spice Cake to the Market this month along with Coconut Lemon Caramel, Devils Food and Carrot Cakes.

5. Sonali Kolhatkar My signature granola will be at the market, made with coconut oil, maple syrup, almonds and pumpkin seeds – more than 85% organic ingredients, vegan, gluten free, and delicious! Just made this weekend!  My first time vending at the AUFM this Sunday. I’ll be selling breads like the Rosemary Kalamata shown, as well as organic granola. More info at www.bakergoddess.com.

6.  Karen Klemens New this month — I’ll have a small assortment of items that will be available as “pay what you please,” an alternative to straight forward commerce. This is part of my business philosophy that makes wholesome food available to the larger community, regardless of whether they can pay full price. I also will be accepti…ng Arroyo Time Bank dollars. These canned items are perfectly safe and delicious. Some may be perfect aesthetically — some may not. All are 100 percent sound. And remember: even if you choose not to buy any items from me this month, I’ll still give you a buck for any returned Ball and Kerr canning jars. No questions asked!

7. Christina:  Crusty French bread, persimmon-bourbon tea bread, meyer lemon-vanilla bean marmalade, meyer lemon-chile marmalade, arugula, kale, collards, swiss chard, herbs. I grow all the produce, including the primary ingredients in the persimmon bread and marmalades, in my own Altadena yard. I look forward to seeing everyone.

8.  Arroyo Food Coop is going to offer winter salad with home made cracker by chef Lois Williamson.

9. Kristina Clinton Ginger Marmalade, Apple butter, Lemon Mint Marmalade, Marsalla Jelly, Traditional Seville Marmalade, and Kosher Dill Pickles. Each item contains homegrown ingredients. I take Time Dollars! If you have any empty mason jars (1/2 pint or smaller) I would love to buy them!

10. Mimi Carter Potato & Pasilla pepper bread to spice up your Sunday suppers

11. Lisa Chimner L J Chimner Good Food Co will be back with home made soups! How about Hot and Sour Soup and Coconut with Leek and Mushroom to help get you started on the Chinese New Year?

Several more will be there…

Come shop for home grown and home made stuff, mostly food, from your neighbors. Get inspired–maybe you are a potential vendor for the next market! Bring your family, pet some goats, chase some chickens. Enjoy an afternoon on the grounds of Altadena’s Zane Grey Estate.

Don’t wait in line! Download the membership form at www.arrroyotimebank.org and fill it out in advance! Date it for the day of the market.
