Big Win! Justice Opposes AT&T Merger.

SavetheInternet.com

Amazing news!

Just moments ago the Justice Department filed suit to block AT&T’s proposed takeover of T-Mobile.

In announcing the suit, the DoJ’s top antitrust enforcer said, “Any way you look at it, this deal is anti-competitive.” Free Press couldn’t agree more. And for once, policymakers put the law above politics and stood up to a powerful company.

This victory simply wouldn’t have happened without your efforts, calls and letters. The Department of Justice would not have acted without intense public pressure against this deal. And thanks to your support, we filed thousands of pages of research to tear down the mountain of AT&T propaganda and deflate the air of inevitability surrounding the merger in Washington.

The DoJ lawsuit is built on the arguments that you and I have been making since this disastrous deal was first announced: If you remove a competitor from an already concentrated market, the results are bad for industry, bad for consumers and bad for society. And they’re bad for jobs and the economy, too.

In today’s Washington, corporations too often dictate policy. But what’s good for AT&T isn’t good for the rest of us. With today’s decision, we see it’s possible to challenge the most powerful corporations and make policy that actually serves the public interest.

AT&T has already invested millions in this deal, and it’s going to play every card in the deck to try to win this suit and get this merger through.

With your help we will continue to oppose this disastrous deal, armed with the facts and the commitment of more than 500,000 activists like you.

We’ve turned Washington in the right direction on this merger, and now we’ve got to keep pushing until we have a media and communications system that serves our needs rather than the aims of a few giant corporations.

But for today, let’s celebrate!

P.S. Victories like these only happen because of contributions from people like you. We don’t accept any money from businesses, government agencies or political parties. A gift of $20 will help us stand up to AT&T and anyone else who threatens the public interest.

P.S.S. For the latest developments on AT&T’s doomed deal, follow Free Press on Twitter and Facebook.

What Happens To A Person’s Facebook Page When They Die?

May have asked this question, many have probably seen that the account is still active and if someone has access to the account they can still post as if they are that person.

Is this legal according to Facbook terms and conditions?

More HP TouchPads Coming, How to Get Your HP TouchPad

More HP TouchPads Coming, How to Get Yours
“One last run” TouchPad blog, US only apparently.
There is speculation as to why HP is going into production on the TouchPad, some believe it is all the components that HP committed to buying and that is sitting in the warehouse.
If only HP could in fact sell the TouchPad at $99, it would sell millions, but we know better that it costs approx, $300 to make one of these, and HP is taking a big hit, then again we don’t know if HP has used its clout to secure some very favorable pricing on components.

Here’s the HP blog:

Here’s the quote from the post with the main details, that you must follow the twitter accounts to know when the TouchPads will be available.

Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand. We don’t know exactly when these units will be available or how many we’ll get, and we can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone. We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase.  See more information in the updated FAQs below.

Bryna (@BrynaatHP) and I (@MarkatHP) will update you here and on Twitter on the status of the new batch of systems. Please continue to share your thoughts and questions with us. Although we can’t respond to every one directly, we are sharing your feedback with teams inside HP.

AT&T T-Mobile Merger NO Job Loss and Bring Back 5000 Jobs Outsourced

AT&T T-Mobile Merger NO Job Loss and Bring Back 5000 Jobs Outsourced

The proposed merger will not result in job losses for existing U.S. wireless call center employees of T-Mobile and AT&T. After closing the proposed merger with T-Mobile USA, AT&T will bring back 5, 000 wireless call center jobs to the United States that today are outsourced to other countries. This would be the largest return of jobs by any U.S. company since 2008. https://social.att.com/gi9

– This type of headline is great, and a great PR move.
#1 – call center workers in other countries are almost impossible to understand and difficult to hear, so yes, AT&T needs to bring those jobs back, that should be a given.
#2 – 5,000 jobs brought back, these are low paying jobs, unskilled jobs, what does that mean for the thousands that have ben laid off in the past decade as AT&T acquired companies and closed many offices, slash and dash.
#3 – how about AT&T make some simple ads, that focuses on improved service, consistently I will drop calls and have no service, in major metropolitan areas. What’s up with that AT&T, “think possible” to make a call?
#4 – now for some comments:
– Alex Cutadean The loser in this is the customer. AT&T consistently raises prices and limits features without improving the service that is offered. With less competition this is only going to get worse.
– Georgia Peach Does this mean when I press “1” for English I will actually get to speak with someone who understand the words that are coming out of my mouth and me be able to understand the word out of theirs? Cause for the longest I did the chat online with someone and even there the customer service people are misspelling words
– Gideon Alvin White
Now all they need to do is stop dropping calls, lower their prices, STOP mutilating their android phones (the atrix 4g could have been incredible but gayt&t really ringed the experience as well as motorola) and bring back unlimited.

If sprint can offer better service for less money, why can’t you km.

Why should I pay more for your service when sprint gives me better service, fewer dropped calls, clearer calls, unlimited data that never gets throttled, AND it’s cheaper?

– Gloria Padilla OMG Ur call centers have stories. Ppl start normal n end up on anti depression medication.

and the stories/comments continue, hundreds of postings.
The regulators should not allow the merger to happen, it is bad for consumers.
