Celebrate, Contemplate, Educate

An Evening of Higher Consciousness brings together music luminaries and social activists associated with The Gyalwang Drukpa, head of the Buddhist Drukpa lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. Emphasizing active engagement and community service, the Gyalwang Drukpa has advanced peace, gender equality and education for decades through humanitarian efforts. This event aims to bring awareness to these efforts across the globe.

Taking place during Grammy week on Thursday, January 28 in Los Angeles at Club Lingerie (6507 Sunset Blvd.), An Evening of Higher Consciousness is the kick-off of many musical gatherings planned nationwide throughout the year in preparation for the arrival of The Gyalwang Drukpa to the United States in September 2010. Under musical director Jason P. Rothberg.

The evening will feature all-star musical performances by POE, BEN LEE with ASTRELLA CELESTE and AMRITA SEN, The JERRY VIVINO (of Max Weinberg 7) Quartette eaturing MITCH FORMAN (Wayne Shorter, The Brecker Bros., John McLaughlin,Stan Getz etc.), JAMES WORMWORTH (Annie Ross, Ernie Watts, Wynton Marsalis, Levon Helm etc.) and CALVIN TURNER. and an all star jam featuring band leader NORWOOD FISHER (Fishbone) with TRACII GUNS (L.A. Guns, Guns N Roses), JACK MANESS (Sublime), MARSHALL GOODMAN of Rickshaw (Sublime, Long Beach Dub Allstars) TIM WU (Long Beach Dub Allstars), DONOVAN LEITCH (Camp Freddy), BRONX STYLE BOB, JOHN STEWARD (Fishbone), Paris EscovedoDANNY SABER (Black Grape, Agent Provocateur), AMP FIDDLER (Parliament and Funkadelic), P-NUT (311), BOB FORREST (Thelonious Monster & The Bicycle Theif)  and more TBA. 

Celebrity DJs BRENT BOLTHOUSE, KEITH MORRIS (Circle Jerks), and CARMEN RIZZO (two-time Grammy nominee) will spin their favorite tunes, and more surprise guests will be announced next week. The evening will feature a keynote speech from music industry titan Charlie Feldman (BMI-Vice President/Writer/Publisher Relations and Grammy Trustee) and guest speaker Aaron Cohen of AbolishSlavery.org, a human rights activist and internationally acclaimed author. Hosted by Mathew St. Patrick (Six Feet Under) & Adam Gaynor (formerly of Matchbox 20). 

The L.A. event will also display images from and a documentary on the development of the Druk White Lotus School in Ladakh, India, an award-winning, sustainably-engineered project inspired by the vision of the Gyalwang Drukpa. The event will culminate in a live-streaming message from the Gyalwang Drukpa in Kathmandu. A portion of the proceeds will go towards disaster relief in Haiti via the Live to Love International organization. An Evening of Higher Consciousness club events are set to occur once a month in 20 select cities across the United States: Los Angeles, New York City, Miami, St. Louis, Philadelphia, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Fairfield, Chicago, Las Vegas, Dallas, Austin, Nashville, Atlanta, Denver, Phoenix, New Orleans, Washington D.C. and Boston –with the launch on January 28 in Los Angeles. Each show in the series will be hosted by a well-known celebrity and will feature performances from nationally known artists, DJs and hometown headliners. Every event will shed light on local heroes making an impact and inspiring their communities.

The club series will culminate in September 2010 when The Gyalwang Drukpa will arrive in the United States to begin a 20-city tour. Expect a new announcement next week.
