Here’s the release for the announcement for the Burbank/Los Angeles show:
For Immediate Release
Critically Acclaimed Cavalia
Returns to Los Angeles
Los Angeles, CA (November 18, 2010) — Cavalia: A Magical Encounter Between Horse and
Human, a grand-scale spectacle created by Normand Latourelle, one of the founders of Canada’s
famed Cirque du Soleil, returns to Los Angeles, January 19, 2011 under the White Big Top in
Downtown Burbank at 777 North Front Street. Cavalia visited Los Angeles for the first time in 2004
where it played to sold out-houses. Constantly evolving, the current production is nearly double in size
from the original, and showcases new artists, new horses, and entirely new acts, including Sylvia
Zerbini, who works with nine Arabian horses, unbridled, in a liberty act of breathtaking beauty.
Since the original production debuted in 2003 in Quebec, Canada, Cavalia has been enjoyed by more
than 2.5 million people in North America and Europe. A tribute to the bond between horse and human,
the show is a unique combination of equestrian arts, multimedia, dramatic visual effects, live music
dance and acrobatics. It involves 50 magnificent horses from all over the world, and 33 performers,
including riders, aerialists, acrobats, dancers, musicians and a vocalist.
Cavalia is presented under the largest touring big top in North America, a structure rising some 100 feet
above the ground. The audience faces an enormous 160 foot-wide stage, which allows the horses
enough space to gallop and play with the artists, at times completely free, unfettered by bridles or
With their recognized expertise in multimedia, Cavalia’s creator used cutting-edge technology to create
a larger-than-life fairytale and propel the equestrian arts into the 21st century. Horses cavort with artists
before a constantly changing background created by large panoramic projections and visual effects.
Spectators are transported to dream-like virtual settings.
Cavalia’s horses are trained based on a philosophy of understanding the horse, rather than requiring
the horse to understand the human beings around it. The tone of the show, embraced by the entire
Company, is one of respect, kindness, patience, and trust. Audiences have found Cavalia exhilarating
in scope, yet touching in the compassion and mutual respect shown by both horse and human.
Normand Latourelle is the visionary and creator behind Cavalia. Since co-founding Cirque du Soleil in
1985, introducing Cirque du Soleil to Los Angeles in 1987 and bringing Cavalia to Los Angeles in 2004,
Mr. Latourelle has become renowned for his adventurous, mammoth, and innovative productions taking
spectators to new realms. Said Mr. Latourelle, “Horses have enormous presence on stage. Cavalia is a
result of a 10-year quest to find a dramatic way to incorporate the power of horses and their mysterious
beauty into a captivating multi-media experience. My passion in life is to make people dream. Cavalia
honors the mystique of horses, their ability to connect uniquely with human beings and their
extraordinary achievements across our history.”
From the very beginning, Cavalia has enthralled audiences and critics alike.”Horseplay at its best…the
impression is one of an intense bond between horses and man” hailed the Los Angeles Times after the
LA premiere in 2004. Variety called Cavalia “An exciting program and a magical, mythic experience”.
CNN’s Larry King embraced Cavalia as, “The greatest show I have ever seen. Spectacular. Beautiful.
Like being in a dream. I loved it!” The Washington Post exclaimed, “Impressive, highly refined, indeed a
wonder.” The Miami Herald stated, “You’ve never seen a horse program quite like this. Magnifique!” and
O Magazine exclaimed that “The wildly beautiful stallions of Cavalia leave audiences with their hearts
galloping. Breathtaking.” The New York Post remarked, “A dreamlike spectacle exploring the
relationship between man and horse. It’s a rare show that evokes a sense of wonder.” Las Vegas
Magazine proclaimed, “The stunning multimedia backdrop baffles the eyes, the athleticism and
acrobatics stun the senses, and the horses touch the soul.”
Delightful, thrilling and poignant, Cavalia explores humankind’s long relationship with the horse.
Juxtaposed with the vibrancy of the production is a subtle thematic line that takes audiences through
the evolution of horses and our interaction with them. Audiences discover an unbridled life in the
wilderness, then early domestication, and ultimately a relationship with human beings based on
freedom and mutual respect.
Cavalia will take place under the White Big Top in Downtown Burbank at 777 North Front Street. Tickets
go on sale on November 18, 2010. Regular tickets range from $69.00 – $139.00. For guests desiring an
