Hi Cherry Pickers,
We are getting excited! Some of the cherries are starting to turn yellow and a few even have a hint of red showing (we will be posting some new pictures on the web site www.upickcherries.com in a couple of days).
Right now we are pampering the trees with lots of water and fertilizer exactly as indicated by our leaf analysis.
UNFORTUNATELY, the cherries are ripening slower than we thought they would. We will NOT be able to open on May 30th. We may still be able to open on June 6th but won’t know for sure for a couple of weeks. The best picking with the most ripe Bings and Rainiers will be from June 13th thru the 5th of July! We’ll certainly be open every day during that time frame and you’ll have lots and lots of delicious cherries to choose from.
Remember, there is never an entrance fee or a parking fee at Villa del Sol. You just pay for the cherries you pick.
In case you didn’t notice this on the web site, we love to give to charity so if your non profit organization brings a group of 25 people or more, we will donate 10% of that groups sales to the charity right on the spot! So tell your favorite charity or church to put together an outing to the cherry orchard and raise some donation money at the same time.
We will keep you posted as the time gets closer. Be sure the check the web site and the hot line 661 270-1356 for last minute updates before heading to Villa del Sol.
See you at the farm!

The Denver Zoo is in the process of working on a system which will provide power. The zoo combines about 90% of the waste from the zoo with pellets and the resulting gas is used to provide power.

California News (KFSN) — Governor Schwarzenegger is helping launch a new website aimed at helping California veterans adjust to life back home.
The governor met with members of the Department of Veterans Affairs and State National Guard leaders to announce the “Network of Care for Veterans” website.
The site covers social services, medical services, education and employment opportunities in the veterans’ local communities. Governor Schwarzenegger says our veterans need help.
The Sacramento County Network of Care for Veterans & Service Members is part of a growing awareness and effort to take a community approach to the needs of returning veterans, to ensure that they are a valuable part of a healthy community and that the community is a meaningful part of the health of the veteran. The Network of Care for Veterans & Service Members is a one-stop-shop for virtually all services, information, support, advocacy, and much more. This public service is an attempt to bring together critical information for all components of the veterans’ community, including veterans, family members, active-duty personnel, reservists, members of the National Guard, employers, service providers, and the community at large.
This year’s blueberry harvest kicked off on Thursday with plenty of smiles and fun. We will be open throughout the weekend as well as Monday May 25th- Memorial Day.A quick story…Ray & Kathy’s daughter and my sis, Jill (Graesser) Corson and her husband Army Major Rob Corson are visiting from Colorado. Rob is on a 2 week R&R get away from Iraq. This is Rob’s third deployment in a very short amount of time. Rob brought us a flag that flew above his post in Iraq along the Iranian border. We are blessed to have Rob visit, even for a short time. We will be flying that special flag on the farm Monday. On Monday we would like to thank all active duty Military personnel (and spouses) with a chance to bring your family for 2 for 1 U-Pick Blueberries. Pick 2 and pay for 1. Just bring an active military ID card.Regardless of anyone’s opinion on war, the Temecula Berry Co sends out our heartfelt appreciation for all service personnel that have served and are currently serving in our armed forces. Your efforts and family sacrifice are truly amazing. Thank YOU!!!Mike Graesser

Geek-chic SoCal tech event opens call for Showoffs
Innovative Start-ups Wanted for Twiistup 6
Los Angeles, CA – May 19, 2009 – Twiistup, Southern California’s premier event showcasing innovation and connecting professionals from the worlds of technology, media and entertainment, invites startups to apply for 10 free ‘Showoff’ slots at Twiistup 6 starting today. Twiistup 6 takes place on Thursday and Friday, July 30 and 31, 2009 at the Universal Hilton in Universal City, Calif.
Showoffs at Twiistup have the chance to gain exposure and visibility in front of a mix of investors, entrepreneurs and other influencers in the tech/media industry. This year, a panel will select 10 entrants based on qualities including:
– contribution to technology, innovation and entrepreneurship
– value and appeal
– originality and inspirational or thought-provoking content
Winners will be selected in two rounds, the first ending June 12 and the last on June 26, with preferential consideration given to applications received before the round one deadline. Twiistup recently announced an expanded agenda that adds a full day program to the established evening showcase, giving Showoff companies significantly more exposure.
“Sponsors are paying thousands of dollars for space that we’re giving to Showoffs for free,” said event producer Francisco Dao. “If you’re a startup who wants exposure there’s no reason not to throw your hat in the ring.”
Having outgrown all of its previous venues Twiistup 6 moves to the Universal Hilton where it will occupy over 23,000 square feet of space.
Showoff companies will be selected by a panel of the following five judges established in the world of technology and media:
Companies interested in entering for one of the 10 featured Showoff spots can apply on the Twiistup Web site at www.twiistup.com/call-for-showoffs/.
A limited amount of passes are available for media and bloggers. Media who would like a complimentary ticket to the event should email a request to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Here’s the link
If you haven’t already heard, Twiistup 6 is going to see a big expansion and be 1 1/2 days. We’re still keeping the party – and the open bar – but we’re working hard to make it the flagship showcase of innovation and digital media.
Hope to see you all at Twiistup 6 in July and tell your entrepreneur friends to get their showoff applications in before the first round closes (June 12th) for their best chance of getting a slot.
